Katharine Ley, Cellist

British Cellist, Katharine Ley lives in Newark, freelances professionally in the UK and enjoys a varied portfolio career with much performing and teaching work. 

Katharine’s main influences include her studies with Soloists Raphael Wallfisch & Felix Schmidt, the Royal Northern College of Music where she graduated with a 1st and her earlier studies at the Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire. 

As a Soloist, Katharine performs regularly with choirs, orchestras and in a recital setting. Recent performances include Karl Jenkins Benedictus: from the Armed Man with Baslow Choir; the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Grimsby Symphony Orchestra and an evening recital at the Worksop Concert Series. 

Katharine is a keen orchestral player; she was selected as a Cello Fellow at the San Francisco Academy Orchestra and worked closely with members of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. During her youth, Katharine won seats in numerous national youth orchestras including the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. 

Katharine combines her performance career with much teaching work and predominantly works as Cello and String Ensemble Tutor at Worksop College & Ranby House. 

Katharine plays on a Betts School Cello (c. 1790) paired with a John Clutterbuck bow.

 

You-Chiung Lin, Concert Pianist

You-Chiung Lin is an active solo pianist and chamber musician based in the United Kingdom. After graduating from Tunghai University in her native Taiwan, she was awarded a full scholarship to study with Piers Lane at the Royal Academy of Music in London and with Douglas Finch at the London College of Music & Media. She has appeared in masterclasses with Imogen Cooper, John Lill and Artur Pizarro amongst others. In addition to giving successful concerts at home and abroad, she has presented highly acclaimed recitals on various cruise lines. Her concerto performances have been greatly praised including regular return appearances with the Reading Symphony Orchestra and the Bristol Concert Orchestra. She also has frequent collaborations with conductor and pianist Stefan Hofkes in various ensembles. Her recordings include a selection of solo works by Chopin, Liszt, Mozart and a live performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 2.
