STEVE AND DEE MARSHALL
FOLK MUSIC WITH INSTRUMENTS
Steve & Dee have been playing music for many years.
Steve originally picked up a guitar over 60 years ago. He was resident at a folk club in Derby in the early 1970’s and set up his own folk club in Malton in the mid 1970’s. In 1976 Steve joined Dee in the York based folk band “The Foresters” which continued for 47 years from its original founding and played the last gig in 2018. In addition he played for a few years in the ceilidh band “Alterego”, and now performs as either solo or as a duo with Dee at festivals, various clubs and sing arounds. He sings a variety of modern and traditional folk songs & plays guitar, bass, mandolin and bouzouki.
Dee started singing and playing guitar when she was 16 with influences from many sources across the range of folk singers of the time. She sang and played in the local clubs and also joined The Foresters in 1976. More recent interests as well as the folk music involves playing flute & saxophone in various big bands and saxophone gatherings, and plays guitar, electric bass, alto tenor and soprano sax, clarinet, flute and cahon. Steve joins the bands on bass.
The combination of the various instruments and a wide range of songs from folk and other genres available to Steve & Dee results in a varied programme hopefully to please all.
